| (posting this for others in the future) *camshaft scratched scored scoring sanding Camshaft is trash. As for the cam housing in the head, what I would do is sand down the high spots as best you can. I’d use a 180 grit or finer with some wd40 or oil and use a diagonal swipe from the one corner to the other (top left to bottom right) Essentially you’re ensuring you don’t sand a flat spot or uneven wear into the surface. The oil/wd40 will help with not galling the material as well. Do your best to get the lines outs as best you can or until you feel that the high spots are low or below the undamaged surface on the rest of the cam cap. Be sure to not take too much out of the cam and tunnel area on the head as the clearance for the camshaft at its max is .0035”. I think you’ll be fine if you follow those steps. The reason the wear is present is you had FOD/debris enter into the engine and lodge itself between the cam and cap. Since the cam is harder than the cap the cam will wear grooves into the cap material. By replacing the cam with a known good core you will remove the issue. Just be thorough with your work and if you have questions feel free to email me.
