| I set cylinder #1 to TDC and verified that my pointer is directly at 0* TDC on the compression stroke. The degree wheel is not spinning and I lightly hit the crank bolt with my impact gun so it's tight. The crank did not spin when I did that. I pulled the right exhaust valve cover off so I could see when the exhaust cam lobe for cylinder 1 was pushing the valve all the way open. I installed my dial gauge with .100 preload. I rotated the crank CCW a bit then CW until I saw the dial gauge reach peak lift and begin to rotate in the opposite direction. I rotated the crank CCW again and back CW so I could stop rotating the crank at max lift. Once I found max lift I zeroed out my dial gauge. At this point I've got my peak lift at 0.00 on my dial gauge and I rotated the crank CW until I my gauge indicated .050" and noted the degree on my degree wheel. I then rotated the crank CCW until my gauge swept past 0.0 and back to .050" and noted the reading of my degree wheel. Those are the two readings I listed above. I'll take a few pictures of my process this evening.
