My car would do this, but I never figured out why. I had an ECUtalk setup connected, and could watch the engine temperature and dymanic spark timing, and this is what I saw: With coolant temperature below 130 deg F (right before your stock coolant temp gauge starts to move up), the car would seemingly randomly pull spark timing back to 15 deg, and sometimes it would be up around 40 degrees. The pull to 15 degrees is the bog you feel, and when it jumps up to ~40, you get a surge. It also seemed to happen (sometimes) when I lightly pressed on the gas pedal. After the coolant temperature passed above 130 deg F, this _never_ occured. This is why it doesn't happen with a "warm" start. I've noticed these symptoms on 2 different Zs, both in stock form and then later with intake/exhaust/ECUs. It's much more noticeable on a modified car, but it was still present in both cars in stock form. Anyone have any more info? I've been scratching my head over this one for years. -Jason
