When the ECU is in Idle Mode, the Timing goes to Base Time, and the ECU will ignore the O2 Sensors for fuel mixture.. the Idle speed will be set to ECU specks, based upon All the Various Temps ETC ... Check and/or Set the TPS Voltage before you start messing with Timing.. because if the ECU is not a base time, then the ignition timing will be wrong.. Another way to check if the ECU is in Idle Mode, it look at the O2 Sensor Voltage ( Digital Volt Meter Works ).. the O2 sensor Voltage should Flip Flop .3 to .7 or so then slowly drop to less then .1 volt and hold there.. if it does that, the ECU is happy and Idling.. anything else needs troubleshooting..
