Message I'm finishing up a fresh rebuild on my 90' TT engine. The rebuild includes:

Wiseco 87.5mm TT pistons
Stock rods resized with ARP rod bolts
OEM head gaskets
OEM head bolts
OEM cams - Cams swapped from automatic to manual cams
OEM "EG" intake valves - Mine were the early style "soft valves" from the factory. All 12 were replaced.
3-angle valve job
Heads were vacuum tested to verify they sealed up
Z1 viton valve stem seals
OEM valve springs

The issue I'm concerned about is that I have compression coming back out of the intake valves when I rotate the engine with a socket. I hear a bit of a hiss and a slight pop as the intake valves crack open during rotation.

The machinist took off .005" the heads when he resurfaced them. The first thing I noticed was that the 40P (I think) cast on the bottom of the heads was almost completely gone after he resurfaced them. I wouldn't think that .005" would take it down that far. As far as I know the heads have never been off the engine and resurfaced in the past.

So any suggestions on what to check on? The timing belt was installed correctly and I counted the cogs between each dot. Are adjustable cam gears in my future?
