Bite the bullet and replace the high pressure hose. My 90 NA had its high pressure hose go bad as well go bad years ago, with the same results. Its a bit of a pain to get off and change because of all of its bends and turns, but nothing else has to be pulled off to replace it.
The trick is to disconnect the top end of the hose and then undo the bottom fitting, and then wind the assembly around all of its twists and turns from under the car to remove it. Good Luck!
