Message gets dried up, cracks, and falls out. There's a kill switch on the clutch pedal that the insert pushes against, without the insert the switch wont be activated causing your car not to start, I deleted mine for the reason that I hate pressing the clutch pedal to start my car, so I just put it in neutral and turn the key :)
