Message Need some help on a customer car. It's runs rich all the time. Blows smoke at idle, rpms up, etc. It's fuel/exhaust smoke.

The o2s didn't appear to be working when watching with a program. Found the wiring harness on the passenger side was broke off. Spliced it back on with no change. Driver side o2 sensor was not oem and seemed spliced together. I replaced them both with brand new o2s I had. No change.

I installed a new oem wiring harness the customer had on top of the engine for now as the original one was pretty toast and they wanted the new one in anyway. I'll install it correctly once I fix this issue and get the car running right. I have other things to do as well that require the engine to be pulled. I did see a change as in I can see the o2s reading now but they stick around .34 and don't roam as they should.

replaced maf, no change

compression test is good

boost leak test is good

no codes

put on fuel pressure gauge. Pressure is good and doesn't leak down after car is shut off.

Customer told me the car had 555 injectors. They are the early style so its hard to tell if they are. He has a receipt from buying them and the shop they had install them was a legit z shop in Denver (long closed) so I want to believe they actually installed them. Early 555's look just like stockers so its hard to tell. About the only difference is stockers have a colored dot on them. These don't appear to have a dot but they are old and beginning to turn from purple to brown some as well.

So I then went to the ecu. Pulled it out and it's an older JWT upgrade, but it said it was for stock injectors. Downloaded the code and sure enough it is for stock injectors, not 555. Customer said the car ran fine for years and just recently started smoking. Doesn't make sense how it could do that.

So with that I tried a new ecu, no change. I then put in a 555 program. Car runs exactly the same as the stock injector program. I would think one of the ecu combos would make it run different than the other.

So I'm at a loss as to what could be problem. Being I don't see the o2's roaming I'm thinking its rich because of that but I can't find why they are not roaming/reading/working correctly.

I'll take any and all suggestions.
