is that 3" dp's are good for all setups, and 3" catbacks are generally slightly better for higher hp applications. One pundit on here, with a higher hp Z as I remember, noted only a slight hp gain by going to 3" catback. 3" are louder, I think, but no other problems I've heard of. Since I think many of the smaller catbacks are too loud, I wouldn't consider it, but you seem to have a different goal.
