I was thinking the reason why I never saw the smoke before was that cylinder 4 never had a working injector, thereby masking the broken cylinder rings. The contradiction is the vehicle actually ran correctly after installing that new, albeit unmatched injector. That confuses the crap out of me. Could it be the rings were starting to go, then somehow fixed themselves only to be broken again by high and lean boost/compression?
