:You really should do an a/c write up :) :So the expansion valve - is that the same as the throttle suction valve? When you convert to r134a, are you supposed to gut that valve?no, it is a separate device :What's your opinion on using a fluorescent dye to detect leaks? I find it useful, and regularly use lubricant that has a UV dye :I bought a container of mineral spirits to flush with, just need a good procedure. That is a good starting point. Beware that mineral spirits, while a good solvent, doesn't evaporate worth a damn, even under vacuum. I disassemble the system, flush each component separately with mineral spirits, and then follow up with a product called Duraflush II as necessary: [ http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000E0Z6NM ] I use it sparingly, as it is expensive. It ensures that there is NO residue of any kind, and that your system is squeaky clean. Not all components require flushing with duraflush, but on items such as condensers, evaporators, and pipes with mufflers, it is necessary to get all the remaining mineral spirits out.
