Subject	car stalled while driving?

Message	my 93 stalled while driving down the highway. the engine just cutout. i tried popping the clutch while coasting, but the engine wouldn't start. i also tried the key to no avail. so i coasted to a stop on the shoulder. the engine wasn't overheating. and made no unusual noises. the only unusual smell was a slight hint of burnt wiring, but no smoke. the dash lights and accessories go on when i turn the key to on, but starter doesn't turn the engine over. just kind of a click. the tow truck tried to give me a jump, but it still wouldn't start. any ideas?
