In Reply To It holds Vacuum, How can it be leaking? posted by Cjw3 on May 21, 2013 at 09:19 PM

Message i must have a leak. so when i say it holds vacuum, yes i meant only for 30 mins and showed no signs of leaking. so what you're saying is the only way to find a leak is to hook it up to a vacuum pump for an entire day or week to see? I have a friend who is able to recharge my system for me and pull a vacuum for me at the dealership he works at, but i doubt that i can just leave the car hooked up to the pump for that long.

so it seems the consensus here is i have a VERY small leak. that can't be found with any sort of equipment. Short of looking over every single joint in the system or just randomly stabbing in the dark and replacing parts, are there any other options? i'm seeing some people mention using propane to charge the system and find leaks because even a slight leak will cause a pungent smell. However, this seems like it might not be a great idea. Are you familiar with any sort of method that uses propane? I'm aware that it has been used as a refrigerant in the past, but still.

As my car stands now, the compressor will still engage so there is still some refrigerant in the system. What is my next step? bring it somewhere and have a vacuum pulled and see how long it holds? go over every fitting with a magnifier and replace the o-rings? use propane? I want to take the next step and i want to make progress.
