| Here are the notes from the mechanic. Despite my request they did not do a leak down test but to their credit I don't think they thought it necessary. For reference the engine got a full 120K Service by a decent shop (recommended by my local Z Car club) at Mileage 146,399. Currently the car is at 146,878. "Removed spark plugs found 1 & 3 Washed and others fuel fouled. - Pressure test cooling system would not hold pressure - and found leak at the lower hose, Tightened and still bled off - # 1 coil boot also split - Tested fuel pressure, runs very rich - tested injection/ignition & MAF - Compression Tested and found Dead cylinder #1 - Intermittent engine lock up on attempt to start..." They honestly sound stumped to me. The when I asked about the best theory as to how the engine might have gotten this way the answer I got was that it was most likely that water was sucked up into the air filter (it's a single POP charger style) but that didn't strike me as a likely source. The car hasn't seen a drop of rain in at least 3 years and there was no rain, or standing water that I was in before, during or after the malfunction. Either way it sounds like cylinder 1 is toast. Without a leak-down test it's impossible to determine if it's the head or the bottom end that is the culprit. I think either way it's not a good sign for the car. I'll be selling the whole thing off shortly. Theres some really nice parts on the car but I'm not up for parting it out. If your interested in the car or looking for something 1996 specific please PM me I'll be posting a sale add for it soon. RIP 1996 - 2013
