that supports the input shaft. This the shaft that is partially exposed inside the bell housing and inserts into the pilot bushing (a 3rd bearing point). The input shaft is also co-linear with the main/output shaft. There is a bearing at the point where the 2 shafts connect. If your trans shifts well and does not pop out of gear, but makes noise, problem is likely a bearing. If the noise frequency is only engine-dependent, then its is the case bearing, if in addition, gear dependent, then look at the input/main beraing.
