Message A little background. I picked up a 96tt last year 120,000 miles, that had a timing belt break. The PO had another timing belt installed to check compression and found #2 and #4 had low compression. Kind of crazy spending $1200 on a compression test, but that is what he did.

So I pulled the engine the other night, separated the heads, trying to see what was damaged. It doesn't look like there is any damage to the pistons or cylinders. Good news I think. I was hoping this was the case since he had the bottom end rebuilt about 40k prior. Pistons do have some carbon build up, but no marks on the cylinders. Also when I pulled the left side head, it did smell like burnt oil.

So here are the questions:
1-What should I be looking for in the cylinders and pistons?

2-How do I tell if the valves are bent or flattened?

3-Any suggestions for a shop/person in the Denver area to do the head work? This Z is not going to be built as a monster, so just a basic refresh.

4-Should I have the bottom end looked at more closely and/or should I have any work done while the engine is out?

Thanks Colorado guys in advance.
