I've removed them numerous times and my 150k plus miles bearings are just fine. I will thread a regular nut onto the stud so that the nut is still sticking out past the stud. Then hit the nut with a hammer. This will protect the studs (if you want to maybe use them later) and it only takes a few good whacks to get the stud out. Wear hearing protection too as it tends to be quite loud.
