Message the cams naturally want to rotate to the position with the least valve spring tension. When all the cams are in this position all of the valves are closed. You can rotate the crank in this configuration without worry of pistons hitting the valves

Then move the cams one at a time to the proper position, rotating by hand. If you feel a valve contacting a piston, stop and rotate the crank maybe 20 degrees, and then try again. Return the crank to TDC after each cam movement.
