Message The JWT ECU has very little difference between it and the $50 ASH/Z1/SpecZ tunes have.

The reason it is so expensive is because they were the first ones to offer it, haven't updated their prices to reflect the new market, and you are also paying to have the eprom chip soldered into your ECU.

The Eprom is computer chip inside your ECU. It controls various engine parameters such as fuel, timing, air, ignition, etc.

The original tune is a compromise between engine reliability, power, and fuel economy. The aftermarket tunes like JWT adjusts the parameters to create more power at the expense of economy and reliability(turbos, mainly). The main supply of power is generated from the 5+ extra psi of boost that the new tune has maps for, and thus the engine can run safely. A car with a JWT ecu that still runs stock boost of 9.5 psi will not feel much different.

Now usually when upgrading the ECU, the car already has exhaust and intake upgrades. Those combined with the ECU should generate an addition 60-90 HP over stock. Thats a good kick in the pants difference. However in today's world of 360 HP Ford Tauruses, it isn't as devastating of power as it used to be.

There is also 100 different things that could be wrong that will make your car slower as well. Common things to check would be base timing, boost leaks, injector health, spark plug gap, and compression.

Good luck.
