i can't see an issue with putting in a 10 or eve a 5W30 if temps are below Zero. but aside from that the good old Zee's need a lot of love an attention. the only thing (sensors) i think he can be taking about bout that would cost hundreds would be the O2's but you really need to test them before spending the money. the ecu temp sender unit isn't expensive, however when they go wrong, "generally" it causes issues once the car is warn. So, to start with you need to check and clean all electrical connectors you can get to (including the MAF one under the front cover between the headlights) any corrosion on them will cause running issues and may hamper the start. go to an auto electrician and get them to check the battery. if you can get hold of a conzult you could check the TPS voltage and its also worth setting the T bodies so that they are calibrated right (guide on htis site [ http://z32.wikispaces.com/ ] under throttle bodies) easy to do. if you have a timing light it is also work checking the timing (it should be 15 TDC). mind you a new set of injectors (fitted) is going to set you back a few hundred. best of luck.
