Subject	Starter issue

Message	I just replaced the flywheel on the car and got everything buttoned up. When I go to start the car all I hear is the starter spinning but it doesn't engage the flywheel. I did this before I replaced the flywheel. If I put the car in 1st gear the starter engages the flywheel and the car starts. I'm thinking the part of the starter that comes out and engages the flywheel is stuck. Any suggestions other than replacing the starter?
