Last spring I took the entire dash out of my 90 NA to remove a mouse nest from the HVAC unit. It wasn't a big deal at all, and didn't take that long to do. I recall reading (here) that it was a pain, yet I didn't find it so. Now, I have had a lot of wrenching experience on a myriad of cars over the years, and I have the tools to do most anything car related. So I can appreciate why you would have difficulty, when you say you're not mechanically inclined. But this job isn't that demanding, but it can be frustrating your first time. Take lots of step by step pictures. The best advice I can give you is to buy/steal/borrow a Factory Service Manual (FSM). The body section will give you the clues to all of the hidden fasteners, where they are, and how they come apart. Get one, read it, study it, and then take your time doing the job. And yes, I have one, that I bought some 20 years ago at the time I purchased the car. Good Luck!
