'91tt has a distinct heavy clunk in the drivetrain when engaging or disengaging the clutch while accelerating or decelerating whenever the engine speed is not matched perfectly to the road speed. Worse with new clutch but I think that is because it does not slip. It feels like it is under the car but hard to tell. I know it could be anywhere from the engine mounts to the rear suspension, but the only thing I can find is some play in the differential (1/2" at the tire tread with the other wheel locked). Any suggestions appreciated. How can I check the engine mounts?
