Message Long story short, my Z had small oil leak dripping straight onto the front of the alternator. It sat for a week while I waited for my alternator to be rebuilt. After replacing the alternator I drove about 5 miles before the oil leak became massive. Engine oil pressure dropped to 0, lifters started ticking, trail of oil behind the car, etc.

I started pulling everything off today to try and find the problem. After pulling the driver and passenger upper timing covers off I noticed the covers (held in by 4 tiny screws) on the front of both of the intake cam sprockets were barely hanging onto the sprockets. For one, I would like to know what purpose these covers serve. Also, could this be the cause of my oil loss? It didn't look like there was really that much oil that head leaked out of them, but that could be because the car has been sitting for a couple weeks now.

Thanks in advance,
-Nick
