Message I am truly in shame as I say this. I ran out of gas in teh Z but fortunately it was not under any boost or heavy driving. However there were some weird issues as it was happening but I didnt think I was running out of gas although the light was on. Shocker huh. (When driving "normally" the Z averages 19MPG so sometimes for evenings I take it to work for the gas savings and personal enjoyment. I have been running around only putting in 2 gallons at at time for the last few weeks.)

Only about 2 blocks from home I was driving thru a parking lot for a short cut and noticed a noise that sounded like it was coming from the transmission or front of the car somewhere ... of course, a knocking sound, but it sounded... reciprocal? But I still didnt blame the gas I thought my transmission was going bad! The car seemed to still have gas and fuel pressure so I drove the remaining .5 mile to my house and it backed up into the driveway just fine and, paranoid about the sound I heard, I killed it. Well it wouldn't start back up so I was then sure it was out of gas.

All that being said... I let it sit for a day, processing what I had potentially done; installed my new JWT air filters (bent a MAF screen), and then drove it today after pouring in new gas yesterday. When I first turned it on there was a really bad alternator belt squeaking type sound I presume had something to do with me trying to start it with no gas. That sound went away after about 2 or 3 seconds. Then as I pulled it out in the driveway to warm up I noticed a weird singular ticking sound but might just be the same sounds it always makes before warm. After sitting in the drivers seat I see that the idle A/F is staying at 16+, really lean. Is that normal on start up? I noticed the ticking didnt seem to be following the pulsations of cylinders directly but who knows really. I decided to shut the car off and then turn it on again. When I did that the ticking noise was dramatically reduced, almost non-existent... once I started driving, it nearly disappeared, and it was not due to road noise interference, I am talking 5-10 MPH. The issue was weird, seemed like something was misfiring (I know it wasnt actually 'misfiring').

It seemed to drive fine here to work, boosted fine, ran fine, but when idling the AF would lean out by a degree from 14.7 and jump to 15.7 then go right back around 14.7. Like every 10 seconds it would spike up for half a second.

Sorry for the long post but I am wondering if you guys think I suffered any permanent damage or anything needs replacing, repair, etc after this little experience. Is a new fuel filter warranted at the very least? I just changed it out 1500 miles ago. Would the timing or belts or anything be off? The motor is on a fresh build. Of course I'm paranoid. Help me out with your insights and wisdom.
