Message absolutly check for correct timing did you do this? Turn the engine and put #1 cylinder at TDC of its Compression stroke then the TDC timing mark on the crank should line up with the stationary pointer on the block as well as the 4 cam pullies timing marks lining up with their stationary marks on the heads. At that position cam and crank are in time and the correct number of teeth between pullies should be the correct count.
