Message Got a problem...and its a good one. Last year the Z blew a radiator hose while driving. I was 1 block from my house and coasted it into the driveway. Then it shutoff and never restarted. It sat for 1.5 years until I started to troubleshoot it. Found a broken timing belt snapped in half.

Here were my options:
1. rebuild the heads knowing that there is damage. The belt snapped at idle so its a 50/50 shot that theres no damage
2. put a new timing belt on and hope for the best

Well I slapped a new timing belt on and it ran like shit. I checked the timing and it was outside the 30 mark! off the charts. The closest I could get it was about 22 adjusting the CAS. At this point I thought I put the belt on wrong.

Today I redid the timing belt and made absolutely sure the marks were all alligned with the marks on the sprockets. Checked timing and it was still 30+!! was able to get it down to about 17ish with the cas fully deflected in one direction.

My thoughts are that even if there was head damage, the timing should still be adjustable to the correct range right? I have an unorthodox racing pulley and I read that their timing marks were off in a specific batch but im not sure which one I have.

My thoughts are to try again tomorrow and advance the crank one more tooth clockwise to test that, but its all lined up at the moment.

Thoughts?
