Message when handling an airbag it should never be in a "face down" position as shown in your pictures.

In the event of accidental deployment it would turn itself into a projectile, sending the jagged metal back side toward the person handling it.

The proper way to remove the bag is to:

1. disconnect battery & wait 10 min
2. remove lower trim and disconnect the yellow wires
3. remove side trim & unbolt the bag from the wheel
4. remove bag and always keep it facing you and store it in a anti static bag facing up.

Disposal of "live" airbags is serious as well - typically it is considered a hazmat and should be handled like live ordnance.
