Right, the OPSU is just the pressure sensor, and it's notoriously unreliable. But didn't you say you or your mechanic checked with a mechanical gauge, and that's where you got those oil pressure readings? If your car sounded normal despite the gauge reading low I would just blame it on the OPSU, but if you're getting low oil pressure AND lifter tick I would be a little more suspicious. The oil pumps themselves practically never fail, but oil pans get dented a lot.
