and sends that pressure to the gauge. It isn't actually pumping oil through the system - in other words, if your OPSU completely dies, it will not send an accurate reading to the gauge, however this does NOT mean your actual oil pressure goes to zero because the OPSU broke. Oil pumps in these cars don't die too often. I'd do what others suggest and get a mechanical gauge. I think you also stated that your oil pan was dented but mechanic fixed it? If so, maybe they fixed the actual dent but didn't fix any issues related to a bent pick-up tube. Food for thought
