Message	My setup is Alpine Type R 6.5 coaxials powered by Alpine head unit. The stock Bose boxes are ok. But the volume and shape is not designed for aftermarket speakers. So the best sound you will ever get from them will be mediocre. However they are convenient, fit perfect in the door, and protect the speaker magnet from the elements. I switched to MDF plates I made myself. I then used weather stripping from Home Depot to seal them to the door. I also use about 8 bolts to hold it securely to the door and eliminate any resonance. I have a pretty discerning ear and noticed some improvement on the low end, as well as max volume. It wasn't drastic but noticeable. In my opinion, it is worth the switch. Especially since you already have the plates.
