| it breaks. Have you owned this car since new? If not consider a change but pull the top timing belt covers off and inspect the tensioner gap - 4 mm minimum set when new. If gap not much more than that like 6mm and belt has no visable wear your call on a replace. The factory put 60k on replacement to be on the safe side and perhaps to get you into the dealership for service $$ before the warranty ran out. However the timing belt is a wear item and I believe was never covered under B to B 3y -36K or 5y-60k power train warranty. I know early model 300zx's (thru 1991) had the tensioner covered under 3y-36k warranty so if that went bad the belt was a small cost to the owner if they replaced the tensioner. That was changed in 1992 and the tensioner was not covered even under the powertrain warranty. I know because I experienced that unfortunate situation with a tensioner going bad at 36k and 4years (1 y over the 3y -36K), and had to have it replaced. So at that time I did replace the timing belt and they threw in the water pump gratis (nothing was wrong with it but why not for free). I have had the car since 92 with 4k at purchase and 88k now.
