Learned this the hard way with my oil pan. Thought it was no biggie, I was in a hurry torqued it on and dropped my motor in the car. Ended up with leak (not a huge leak, but a leak none the less) and had to pull the motor back out to re-seat the pan properly. Not to mention scraping off all the old RTV and cleaning the pan, PITA. Better to take your time and do it right the first time in order to avoid grief later. I believe RTV needs at least an hour to cure, depending on temperature. Snug the bolts, let cure, then torque to spec.
