Message So I have hard start problems, have for a while. I've been working my way through the list of possible causes and I'm kind of at a dead end.

So, my car will not hold fuel pressure at all when keyed off. Like, it drops to 0 almost immediately. I followed a post I found here and clamped off the return line (the one close to the fuel filter under the hood) and it held pressure steady.

I tried putting a check valve behind the fuel filter just to see if it did anything, same deal.

I have a new fuel pressure regulator, and following the recommendation of this post

I pulled the pump out today looking for rotted hoses or anything else that might cause it.

For starters the pump looks pristine, almost new. No rotted hoses at all. In fact the only hose that connects at the outlet of the pump looks literally almost brand new. There is no gas smell anywhere when the car is driving, so I am assuming that it's a problem in the tank somewhere, or with the pump. I think that's supported by the fact that clamping the recirc line causes the pressure to hold steady.

Where else should I look? I checked my regulator by smelling the inside of the vac line... it smells like rubber, no obvious fuel smell, plus like I mentioned it's new.

Thanks as always for any advice.
