Usually if it's running rough, it's lean. But then you smell gas which means rich. So you're probably looking at an injector issue here for sure. Which cylinder is it? Did you isolate it by the power balance test? Sounds like the injector is getting stuck open, then closed, etc. Did you Ohm test it? Could also have the wrong lower o-rings on your injector or have pinched rings, causing rich conditions.
