Message it could be as simple as the idle (screw) isn't adjusted correctly to vacuum leaks, corrosion in some or all of the injector or other connectors (pretty common), issue with the throttle position sensor - the list goes on.

Run a google site search for idle issues on this site and then follow the various responses on what to check for. Good luck - this could take a while to figure out...

FYI: Might want to dump your ECU codes as a first step -- see if anything is coming up there. Can do this yourself, no code reader needed -- see the FAQ section for how-to...

PS - On my '91 Z, issue wasn't as bad a yours but the idle still dipped from time to time. Wasn't until I replaced a majority of the old engine bay connectors (ie., for injectors, IACV, etc) that it finally went away....
