Message If I understand this correctly, the variable valve timing on the intake cams only adjust timing and does not affect duration or lift. I used to think the solinoids pushed the cam shafts forward onto a different profile, however after further research, I find this is not the case. The solinoids, which are activated at low RPM, allow oil to pass through the cam shaft to actuate a helical gear in the timing sprocket. This casues the sprocket to rotate to a slightly different orientation on the cam shaft, thereby changing the timing only. Do I have this correct?
