No I am not sure and to be honest I haven't even thought about VTC springs making a noise. I did replace these with new VTC springs during the rebuild. How do I check to determine if it is the VTC springs? I used a stethoscope to listen to the engine and it seems to be coming from the upper intake area. I listened to the upper timing belt dust covers but I didn't notice any abnormal sound coming from this area however I was using a long piece of tubing instead of the stethoscope.
