In Reply To A/F alpha at idle is 109 but wideband is rich. Confused. posted by treese88 on June 01, 2012 at 08:56 PM

Message but it reads like comparing the alpha to the wideband the way you are doesn't make sense.

The alpha is telling you the correction the ECU is actually making to the fuel mixture. In other words, if you're seeing that the ECU is enriching the mixture, then it's actually doing so, which means the wideband won't read lean if the ECU, fuel system, etc are actually working properly. The wideband will be reading the exhaust gases produced by the enriched mixture, with the alpha applied. Right? If I'm not understanding something about your concern I apologize.

As for whether or not your idle wideband reading is considerably richer than it should be, I am not sure. I don't know what idle AFR should be.
