Message to make my filters i purchased a "central air" filter and cut it to hell.

here is what i used:

(again sorry for no pics here, but this part was easy!!)

first i removed plastic, then i slowly peeled the cardboard from the face of the filter, it is clued to filter where cardboard comes in contact with the pleets. nothing major, just be patient and slow.

then once cradboard is removed from face of filter element i went ahead and removed the cardboard from the outter edge of the filter.

next i took my time to fltten out the filter (removing all the pleets) we need the filter flat so that we can go back to our paper template (one used to cut out plexi) and trace out a bunch of new filters. (side note, width is perfect however, you will need to add about an inch of length to the end of each filter. this will give you enough material to fold over onto itself to make a handle/ seal for the blower motor housing.

folding material over onto itself 3 or 4 times at 1/4" overlaps will make one end of the filter thicker then the other. this will end up wedging into that nice slot we just cut with the dremel and razor blade.
after filters are cut to size and folded up i used tin tape (ducting and a.c. guys use this metal tape for sealing metal duct work)
we use the metal tape because it is sturdy and once wrapped around the edge of our filter, will keep the filter supported during use, as well as installation and removal.

here is a filter element once finished:

bottom side has the steel mesh, this is so that when the filter is installed into fan motor housing, and the fan is running, the mesh will be under the fabric preventing the suction from the fan from separating the filter from the mesh. if filter was installed with mesh side up, i feel the suction of fan would separate the fabric from the mesh, then the filter would become miss shapened and then sucked down into the fan blade itself, defeating the purpose of a filter in the first place. so install filter with steel mesh side down!!

here is images of filter being inserted into its location on the blower motor housing.

this last pic you can see how the thicker (folded) part of filter wedges into the slit cut out for the filter.

next comes the triming of the vent doors, both are now 1/8" too tall to open and close now that plexi has been installed.
