I have not done the dremel method of injector replacement, but many others have. It's a well established method. If you dig around the forums you should find lots of notes and tips about it, if you want to try that yourself at some point. You might want to get a first-hand second opinion on all the things you're experiencing before you start doing more work. From what you have described here it sounds like you might have a few things going on, and if you're not totally certain where smoke is coming from or what it smells like, it'd probably be smart to get someone else's eyes and nose involved before you take anything apart.
