Message There are likely boost jets installed in order to achieve that 14psi you mention, unless there's a boost controller somewhere that you haven't found yet (unlikely since there would likely be a control box in the cabin). If that's the case and you're only getting 7-8 psi, then you need to do a boost leak test for sure.

If you are unable to confirm that you have boost jets installed, then maybe the old owner used a boost controller, but removed it when he sold you the car? Just a wild guess. If that's the case then you're never going to, at best, boost more than stock until you install some kind of boost control/boost modification hardware. And if that's the case and the safety boost solenoids are disconnected (as they likely would be), that'll stick you at 7-8psi. But don't assume this is the case just because the numbers line up - you need to look for boost jets and/or talk to the previous owner to get more information.

It's common to pinch o-rings when installing injectors, and if you pinch them the wrong way, you wind up with way too much fuel entering your cylinder. It's possible that's what happened, at keptman suggested. If you didn't lubricate the o-rings and/or used a lot of twisting action inserting the injector, it's more likely (though not certain) that an o-ring got pinched. But, that wouldn't cause oily smelling smoke.
