Subject	Can custom temp sensor be cut and work fine if too long?

Message	I'm adding (TT) a custom temp gauge providing OEM one is not precise enough. The best pick-up location is on rear engine water tube going to passemger head but would like to avoid welding a NPT plug to it. There is a rubber hose connecting the same tube which I have bought a "T" adapter with a female NPT but the sensor having about 1/4" x 1/2" long does block 90% of the hose inside diameter when it will be installed. Does someone know if i can cut using a steel handsaw, the sensor lenght to 1/4" long to avoid blocking water passage into the tube without any temp error issue or permanently damage the sensor doing it ?
