Message runs fine for a few days and gets rough again (both of mine went out that way a few years back). I don't recall anyone reporting engine damage issues with this problem -- just wouldn't drive the car (especially if a turbo) real aggressively if idle is rough.

The next injector may not go out for a year or could happen next week - no telling. Your plan is fine for just replacing one of them (for now) - just realize if your ride is a dedicated daily driver, always run the risk of the next one going bad at a inconvenient time.

General consensus is the damage is already done - so not a lot that can be done to help the injectors now installed. Five years back or so I installed new but old style injectors but also mod'd my system so that +12v is only applied to the injectors when the engine is on. So far have had no issues.

Nissan changed the wiring setup in later years to the mod I did -- belief is that the constant voltage helps accelerate the failure. However, if you are willing to run E free gas - might not be a bad alternative other than fuel costs?
