Message When the A/C is on, or the PS pump demands higher loads, the fast idle control device (FICD; the hexagonal shaped solenoid) is used to raise the idle. The air regulator is only used to increase the idle when the engine is cold, but the AAC does so quite well on it's own (and the ECU even has a table for target idle RPM vs temperature).

I've had mine out for about a year with no issues to report.
