| I'm having troubles getting my 1990 tt 5speed Z to start. I have a brand new battery which I keep on a trickle charger to make sure the battery stays. I checked the clutch switch. If I turn the key without pushing the clutch nothing happens at all. If I turn the key with the clutch pushed I hear a click from a relay. The starter doesnt seem to be doing anything. I did have the car turn over a few times, but it stopped. I checked the terminals on the starter and it always had 12v. I disconnected the signal wire from the starter and checked it, and when the key is turned I see 12v, however when I connect the signal wire, and turn the key and check a bare part of the signal wire I see like 10mv. If I take 12 volts to the signal pots on the starter solenoid it kicks and spins the flywheel. So it seems the starter is good. Where do I go from here? I feel like the starter relay is working since I am seeing 12v come on the signal wire, but I cant tell exactly what is going on since it seems when the signal wire is connected to the starter and the key is turned the voltage is non existent.
