| car.. First. Use a multi-meter and determine that you are NOT getting 12v at the starter when the key is attempted to start (test the small lead that clips into trans/alt harness that comes off the starter)
Test the +positive lead that is bolted to the starter (this will test the connection. Use the OHM setting to test for continuity (connection breaks) and then also test using DC volts.. should be around 12v. Also, there is a ground strap that bolts to the top/right transmission bell housing bolt. You can manually check it.. or use a multi-meter in the OHM setting. Test one lead on the negative battery terminal and the other on engine block or transmission case. It should read very close to "infinite" or a closed loop. Then you should test the starter. You can do this by applying a 12v source to the small lead, going into the starter. (do this just long enough to see if it will turn the motor over) Or you can try this just for shits. On this customer's car it ended up being a short in the alternator/transmission/starter harness. Before you turn the key to start the ignition, turn the headlights on.. then try to start.. Sounds stupid.. but it allowed me to get the car started. Due to the partial break in the circuit. Electrical problems can be very strange somtimes. It actually was a combination of the alt/trans/starter harness and the negative terminal in this case.
