Message	and check battery voltage with car off. It should be about 12v then check the battery voltage with the car running it should go up to about 14v. If you think the alternator is causing your belt to squeak take the belt off and make sure the pulley is clean. Then spin it by hand it should spin free like a skateboard wheel if it grinds or has any friction you probably do need to replace the alternator. It sounds like your belt probably wasn't tight enough though.
