fan clutch. Also the electric fans are coolant water temp controlled and usually operate at high ambient conditions and traffic tyoe driving with AC on.
I had a problem with our Infiniti I30 and the electric fans on most of the time in traffic (this car has no belt driven fan). It turned out to be a partially clogged rad that was raising the engine temp. If you are having electric fan issues check out the cooling system for some clogging. A simple way to check if some clogging in the rad is to warm up the engine then shut off and feel the back (exit side at the fan shroud) of the rad for cooler spots compared to other locations on the rad. If all good the rad back should be relatively same temp.
