:How incredibly frustrating this problem was!! Over the last two days my Z has had the classic pause or hesitation in starting when trying to start. Yesterday when I was heading home from work I started the car and there was an odd pause for about a second before the starter engaged. At first I thought nothing of it. Then this morning the same problem occurred but with a longer duration before the started engaged. Then this afternoon, dead Z.
:Checked the battery, and ran all kinds of tests with no success. Enter trusty TwinTurbo.net SEARCH! I went though and found many posts relating to the starter relay. Everything I read seemed to add up so figured it was an easy enough and cheap fix. But after installing the new starter relay... no change. Z had plenty of juice, all electrical worked, seats, windows, fuel pump, headlights... and so on. So back to search I went and read about the interlock clutch switch, but could not find any info where it was. Back to the service manual to locate the switch.
:After getting down under the dash what did I find in pieces wedged up against the floor mat and carpet... nothing other than the most irritating part in my Z repair journey that you can see in the image! Can you believe that this Pedal Rubber Stopper kept my car from starting?! YES! Now, where to find a replacement?! The stopper just disintegrates when touch it. Guess after 20 years we have to be impressed that it held up this long.
